Aboitiz to Use Seawater for Coal Power Plant

The Aboitiz Power Corp. is seriously considering the use of seawater as a requirement for its proposed coal-fired power plant in Davao. The company is studying all means to ensure the plant will not create any inconvenience to the people. Instead of using fresh water, the proposed coal-fired power plant will be utilizing desalinated water.

The proposed facility will take seawater and discharge it at high pressure. The desalinated water will complement the water requirement to run the power plant without seriously affecting the fresh water sources in the area. Read the rest of this entry »

One Network Bank also known as ONB is set to open more branches this year which includes one branch in Makati, five in the Visayas area and four in Mindanao respectively.

As of April last year, One Network Bank operates a total of 75 branches making it the widest rural banking network in Mindanao. The company runs several branches in cities and municipalities in Mindanao including the underbanked areas or areas that have limited or no access to banking institutions. Aboitiz has decided look for new energy source after realizing that hydropower plants is vulnerable to weather conditions. The Davao Travel Agencies Association or DTAA will be having a Mega Travel Sale Expo on March 4 to 6, 2011 at the Gaisano Mall Atrium. This is the second travel expo conducted by the association after the successful expo held last year. The expo is expected to gather at least 30 participating companies.

The Davao Travel Agencies Association is actively promoting Davao as a viable tourism destination. The event will feature different tourism destinations for travelers. Promotional and special tour packages are available during event. The association is expecting an increase of visitors during the expo.

The second Mega Travel Sale Expo will definitely help visitors to acquire more insights on the different tourist sites in the country including Davao City.

Ayala to Build Hotel in Davao

Ayala Land Inc., through its subsidiary Ayala Hotels and Resorts Corp. in partnership with Anflo Management and Investment Corp. (Anflocor) will construct a hotel which will be situated inside the 10-hectare Abreeza mixed-use development project.

The hotel is expected to be completed by middle of 2012. The hotel project is another boost to the growing tourism sector of Davao. It is noted that the visitor arrival in Davao City had been steadily growing for the past years.

The Abreeza hotel is the second in a series of hotel projects of Ayala Land in key Philippine cities. The first hotel project will rise in Bonifacio Global City in Manila. The nine-storey hotel will have 148 rooms and will feature world-class accommodations. The hotel is designed by C.T. Onglao and Associates.

One of the major advantages the hotel is its location. It is accessible to restaurants, shops and offices of the Abreeza complex. The hotel will cater the growing number of tourists and business travelers coming to Davao.

In the same development, the Abreeza project will also house a residential tower which is set to break ground by middle of this year. It will feature studios, one- and two-bedroom condo units.
