It seems like there is no stopping Davao City for reaping numerous awards in 2010. These awards are clear indications that Davao is definitely the most livable city in the Philippines. Below are some of the awards won by Davao City this year.
Global Smoke Free Partnership (GSFP) Award
This international award was bagged by Davao City for its strong and effective implementation of the anti-smoking ordinance. The first was from the South East Asia Tobacco Control Alliance (SEATCA) in 2008.
Red Orchid Award
Davao City received the Red Orchid Award from the Department of Health.
It is the 4th award received by the Davao city for anti-smoking campaign.
Business-friendly cities by IFC and World Bank
Davao city ranked first under the category of “Ease of dealing with construction permits” in a report entitled “Doing Business in the Philippines 2011”. The report includes 25 cities in the Philippines.
People’s Choice and Best Booth Awards
These two awards were won during the 21st Travel Mart held Manila. The Travel Fair is spearheaded by the Philippine Tour Operators Association.
Best Quality of Life by the Asian Institute of Management (AIM)
Davao City also bagged others awards namely:
1. Special Award on the Compliance to Government Plans and Programs
2. Special Award in Documentation, for providing the AIM with a very good documentation of Davao City’s system
3. An Entrepreneur’s Award, for being the most small and medium enterprises- friendly
This is not the first time that the city received recognition from AIM. In 2008, Davao also named as the Most Competitive Metro City in the Philippines by the Asian Institute of Management.
Tops Next Wave Cities of 2010
Davao has been declared by the Business Processing Association of the Philippines as the top next-wave city for 2010 making it the most viable site for outsourcing investments.
The study is being determined based on the four areas namely quality of human resources, cost, infrastructure and business environment.
