One Network Bank also known as ONB is set to open more branches this year which includes one branch in Makati, five in the Visayas area and four in Mindanao respectively.

As of April last year, One Network Bank operates a total of 75 branches making it the widest rural banking network in Mindanao. The company runs several branches in cities and municipalities in Mindanao including the underbanked areas or areas that have limited or no access to banking institutions. Davao City Business Bureau Registers More than 25,000 Applications

The Davao City Business Bureau has recorded a total of 25,646 business permits for both new and renewal business registrations.

The business permit renewal has started in the first week of January and drew a high number of applicants. The Business Bureau has set up a one-stop shop at the SM Davao Event Center which makes it easy for the speedy processing of business permits.

The increase in number of applications and renewals is a positive indication of the growing business activities in Davao City. Among the strong industries in Davao are retail, merchandise and real estate.

Harbour Industrial Development Corp. is set to infuse P1.948 billion worth of investment for a steel factory that will cater the demand for Mindanao market which is estimated at 400,000 metric tons per year.

Once realized, the new facility is expected to manufacture PNS 49 and 211 concrete. The steel manufacturing facility will be located in Panabo City, Davao del Norte and will have an annual capacity of 400,000 metric tons.

The local governments of Davao together with the private partners are planning to build a 25-hectare agricultural complex which will rise in a property located in the southern part of Davao.

The creation of Food Complex is one of the priority projects of the local government. Once realized, the project is expected to boost trade and investments in the city especially in the field of agribusiness.

The project will benefit the region and all other provinces in this part of the country. Agriculture sector is one of the main growth drivers of Davao for the past years. Main export products of Davao region include banana, copra and mango.

The Food Complex project is priority infrastructure needed to further develop industry clusters in Davao region.

SM City Mall Davao is planning to put up an IMAX theater in Davao City. Once realized, the said theater will be the first of its kind in Davao City. The said project is part of the aggressive expansion plan of the company.

IMAX is a state-of-the-art technology that delivers immersive movie experience through a powerful projection system, a superb digital audio system and customized theatre geometry. An IMAX theater usually requires a two-storey structure to cater a big screen.

It is not yet clear whether the planned IMAX theater will be located in the proposed expansion of SM City Ecoland or in the much-awaited SM Mall in Lanang which is expected to open by next year.

In the same development, SM City Davao recently opened its first digital cinema in Davao City proving its leadership in the field of entertainment.

Robinsons to Open Store Inside Abreeza Mall

The Robinsons Retail Group will infuse a fresh investment worth P800 million to put up store building inside the 10-hectare mixed-use Abreeza project. Abreeza is a development project of Ayala Land, Inc. and Anflo Management and Investment Corp.

Robinsons is going to build a separate four-storey structure with a basement and will invest P650 million to the building alone making it the single biggest locator inside the Abreeza Mall.

The commercial building will have a 2,000-square-meter floor area and set to house a supermarket, Department Store, Toys “R” Us, Robinsons Appliances, Handyman Do-It-Best Home Center, True Value, Handyman Do-It-Center, True Value, Topshop, Topman and Dorothy Perkins.

The company also operates Robinsons Cybergate, a two-level commercial building located in Lanang which house department store, restaurants, Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) facilities and other retail shops.

The Robinsons store is expected to be opened when the first two floors of the building are completed in the second quarter of 2011 while the second phase which includes the third floor will be opened by the end of next year.

The entry of Robinsons is a clear indication of the growing interest of locators in the Abreeza Mall project.

The much anticipated opening of Abreeza Mall is scheduled next year. Abreeza is a mixed-use development project of Ayala Land Incorporated and Anflo Management and Investment Corp. It will feature a shopping mall, hotel, residential and commercial lots and office space dedicated to Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) investments. The target opening date is on the first half of 2011.

The mall is located in a sprawling 10-hectare lot along JP Laurel Avenue in Bajada. As of February this year, the mall is almost leased out and set to accommodate more than 300 merchants when completed. This project is considered as one of the biggest single investments that pour in the city Davao.

The term Abreeza was derived from the Italian word “abbraccio” which mean embrace and English word “breeze”.

Last February 18, 2010 was the pre-launching of the mall for its future merchants. The event was attended by Anflocor Group, Robinsons Retail Group, Starbucks executives and many others.

The mall will feature first time comers. Among the possible shops that will first open their branch in Davao through Abreeza Mall are Bread Talk, TGIF for food, XOXO, Café Laguna, New York 101, Lucerne, Lemon Grass and Starbucks. The mall will also feature shops that will showcase the best in Davao.

The first phase of the mall project is expected to be completed in the second quarter of next year with 35,000 square meters gross leasable area (GLA), while the second phase is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2011 with a gross leasable area (GLA) of 26,000 square meters.

In the same development, Gokongwei-owned Robinsons will infuse an investment worth Php 800 million to open a separate four-storey commercial building inside the 10-hectare property.

This development project is foreseen to boost economic growth of the Davao City and neighboring areas. The Abreeza project is certainly something to look forward to. Right now, construction works are in full swing to meet the target opening date.
