SM is opening its newest mall in Davao. This is the second SM mall in the city and the largest SM Mall built in Mindanao.

The mall is located in a 10-hectare along J.P. Laurel Avenue in Lanang, Davao City and it is the 46th SM Mall in the country after SM GenSan.

The new mall boasts an area of 144,000 square meter and designed to cater to the growing demand of the Davao market.

The mall also features SMX Davao Convention Center, a Science Discovery Center and an IMAX theater—the first IMAX facility in Mindanao. Read the rest of this entry »

DFA Mindanao and Regional Consular Office Now at SM City Davao

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has announced that the DFA Mindanao and Regional Consular Office in Davao City have transferred to a new location at the 3rd Floor of the SM City Davao in Ecoland.

The soft opening is set on September 3 to 8 while full operations on September 10.

The office is open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. for both processing and releasing of passports and Sundays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., for passport releasing.

Davao City–Bitung Ferry Service to Start Next Year

A roll-on/roll-off or ro-ro service between Davao City and Bitung, Indonesia is expected to start next year. The news came after the 8th General Membership Meeting of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Davao and Bitung are about 350 nautical miles apart and the new route is expected to reduce transportation cost by about five to 10 percent.

Bitung is a city in North Sulawesi and important commercial harbor for export in East Indonesia. Read the rest of this entry »

Seair Starts Davao–Manila Flight

It seems like Davao International Airport is getting busier and busier as more and more airline companies are opening new flights to Davao. The latest is Seair, the second oldest airline in the Philippines.

The airline is known as having pioneered the commercial flights to tourist destinations like Boracay and Batanes.

Just recently, the airline unveils the slogan “It’s more fun in the Philippines” on the fuselage of their aircrafts as a way of the helping the Philippine tourism. Read the rest of this entry »

IBM to Develop Davao into “Intelligent” City

The City Government of Davao in partnership with IBM is set to develop Davao as an intelligent city by using a state-of-the-art technology from IBM. The project is part of the company’s “smarter planet” agenda.

The flagship project will further enhance security initiatives and help further upgrade the present Public Safety and Security Command Center (PSSCC). Through this project, an IBM Intelligent Operations Center will be setup and will automate the operations and put more intelligence into the present system. It will have a centralized dashboard view that will allow the city to monitor events and operations in real time.This will definitely give the city government more capability to better predict and plan for potential issues.
