Davao is aggressively bidding on Meetings Incentives Conventions and Exhibitions conference or MICE to be held in the city in 2012. The local tourism players in Davao are formulating ways to make the city more attractive to host the said event like creating an affordable and unique tour packages. This year, the MICE event was held in Subic while Cebu will host the event next year respectively.

The competition to host the Mice conference in 2012 is now down to two possible venues where Camarines Sur and Davao City are big contenders. The city of General Santos City also placed a bid for the Mice conference in 2012 but later was not included in the shortlist.

The conference is expected to gather about 500 to 600 participants and be attended by the upscale market. Among the people who are expected to attend the conference are the travel agencies, event organizers and international travel media outlets.

Philippine conference on meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (MICE) will surely place Davao in the international MICE map. The global market for MICE alone is estimated to be worth more than $300 billion.

Among the possible topics to discuss during the event are the issues and the different opportunities facing the tourism market. Possible venues are the Central Bank of Davao, Davao Convention & Trade Center, several hotel function rooms and many others.

The staging of MICE in 2012 in Davao City is expected to develop and market Davao as another MICE destination in the Philippines. On January 2006, Davao hosted the Asean Tourism Forum which gathered more than 3,000 foreign delegates.
