Davao and Bitung are about 350 nautical miles apart and the new route is expected to reduce transportation cost by about five to 10 percent.

Bitung is a city in North Sulawesi and important commercial harbor for export in East Indonesia.

A Cebu-based ferry service provider has signified interest to service the route.

This positive news will definitely benefit the exporters of both countries.

The ro-ro service is in preparation for the free trade agreement of the ASEAN member countries by 2015.
