Davao visitors up by 81%

It seems like the tourism sector in Davao region is booming.

According to Department of Tourism, the number of visitors in Davao Region went up by 81% or total of 714,887 for the first quarter of 2016 as compared to 395,145 visitors during the same period last year.

The number of foreign tourists reached 102,609 as compared with last year at only 28,158.

Based on the Department of Tourism data, the top five foreign markets for the first three months of the year were Americans, followed by Japanese, Koreans, Chinese and Australians respectively.

The Department of Tourism continuously promotes Davao Region as one of the top tourist destinations in the country by pushing more air connectivity going to Davao.

Just recently Xiamen Airlines starts flight between Xiamen, China and Davao which will bring in more Chinese tourists.

Davao City is now becoming a popular destination for meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions.

    We need to upgrade our airport facilities if we target to attract more tourist specially coming from overseas. Any update on the PPP for airport project? It has been long overdue.

    And also need to attract more players in the hotel and convention business to have presence in the city.
