Araw ng Dabaw Celebration

Davao as one of the most livable cities in Asia is celebrating its 72nd Anniversary with this year’s theme “Pagtupad sa Dakilang Pangako” (Fulfilling the Noble Promise) and is commemorated every 16th day of the month of March. This marks as Davao City’s highlighted annual event together with the Kadayawan Festival. This annual celebration upholds the oneness of every people of Davao.

Different and exciting events are scheduled to give fun and remarkable experience to the people of Davao and visitors. The “Araw ng Dabaw” was officially opened last March 09, 2009 at Quezon Park with the “Dawow” Grand Opening Ceremony. Among the events of the Araw ng Dabaw are:

1. Kalasikas: Originated from the local meaning of the soughing of leaves which bring forth beautiful music. This represents fortune, unity and peace as it showcases the exquisite creation of the people of Davao called “Garbo sa Dabaw” (Pride of Davao). Different groups join as they render their all out performance during the celebration. Kalasikas is a scene that promotes culture, creativity and artistic magnificence.
2. Duhwow Exhibit: This highlights the social, political and economic accomplishments of Davao City for 72 years. It shows trophies, photos, notes, tokens and memorabilia. The said exhibit is open until April 8, 2009.
3. Mutya ng Dabaw: The five finalists were finally chosen to vie for crown for Mutya ng Dabaw 2009. The said candidates will compete for the titles Sinag ng Dabaw, Patnubay ng Dabaw, Pag-asa ng Dabaw, Diwa ng Dabaw and the 2009 Mutya ng Dabaw.

Hereunder are the scheduled activities on March 15 and 16, 2009:

Mar. 15
6 pm – Araw ng Dabaw Sportsfest : Triathlon – Queensland Baywalk
3 – 8 pm – SAYAWAN SA DA’N – Legazpi St.,Rizal St., Bolton St., San Pedro St, City Hall Drive
6 – 7 pm – KALASIKAS : Matina Central Elem. School Choir – People’s Park
7- 8 pm KALASIKAS : Davao Boys Choir – People’s Park

Mar. 16
6 am – PASASALAMAT : Thanksgiving Mass – San Pedro Church
8 am – PARADA DABAWENYO -Magsaysay St., left CM Recto , right Bonifcio, left Legaspi St.,, left San Pedro St., Quimpo Blvd.
9 am – 7th Munting Mutya ng Dabaw – Gaisano Mall of Davao
10 am – Sayaw Dabawenyo – NCCC Mall Activity Center
12 nn – PASIDUNGOG : Fellowship Luncheon
7 – 9 pm -BANDA HUDYAKA : Showdown Presentation’ – People’s Park
8 – 5 pm – Kalasikas : Tugtogan Samadhi Musicians – People’s Park

The Araw ng Dabaw is one of the most awaited events where people from different places gather to witness this grand celebration. This is a way of showing the world how unity prevails amidst diversity.
