IBM to Develop Davao into “Intelligent” City

The City Government of Davao in partnership with IBM is set to develop Davao as an intelligent city by using a state-of-the-art technology from IBM. The project is part of the company’s “smarter planet” agenda.

The flagship project will further enhance security initiatives and help further upgrade the present Public Safety and Security Command Center (PSSCC). Through this project, an IBM Intelligent Operations Center will be setup and will automate the operations and put more intelligence into the present system. It will have a centralized dashboard view that will allow the city to monitor events and operations in real time.This will definitely give the city government more capability to better predict and plan for potential issues.

Davao presently has a modern command center and used closed-circuit cameras deployed across the major streets in the city. This enables the city government to response to different situations like traffic management, threat and emergency, fire and rescue, and crime prevention. Once this project is completed, the city will be able to respond to emergencies with exceptional speed.

Davao will be the first in the world to use this kind of technology from IBM according to Mariels Almeda-Winhoffer, IBM Philippines president and country manager. She further stressed that the technology to be used in Davao would be the same technology featured by “Watson,” IBM’s a popular super-computer capable of answering questions in natural language and won games of “Jeopardy” against some of the best players of the show.
