SM-Carlson to Build Park Inn by Radisson Hotel in Davao City

SM Group has again forged partnership with Carlson as the company plans to expands its hotel business, this time in Davao. The company will be constructing a 200-room hotel worth Php 750 million and will feature amenities like restaurant, meeting rooms, swimming pool and a gym.

SM Hotels and Conventions Corp, a wholly owned subsidiary SM Investments Corp. had signed a contract with Carlson, a global hospitality and travel company for the establishment of a Park Inn by Radisson hotel in Davao. Radisson will be handling the management and operations of the hotel. One completed, the hotel will be the very first hotel by Radisson in the Asia Pacific region that will carry the Park Inn brand name. Read the rest of this entry »

One Network Bank Posts Growth in Deposits

One Network Bank (ONB), the Mindanao’s largest rural bank has recorded a 36 percent increase in deposits during the first four months of 2011. According to the latest financial report of the ONB, the amount of deposits rose to Php 9.8 billion higher than last year’s period at Php 7.2 billion.

One Network Bank President Alex B. Buenaventura stated that ONB offers a higher interest rate on time deposits compared with commercial banks. The high deposit volume enable ONB to grow its total resources to Php 12.1 billion, or 33 percent higher than the Php 9.116 billion registered with the same period last year. ONB also recorded a better performance in its loans department.

Final Hearing on Proposed Coal Power Plant Set on May 6

The city council of Davao is scheduled to convene this coming May 6 for the final hearing of the proposed coal-fired power plant by Aboitiz in Davao. The proposal sparked debate among the people of Davao since it came out. Many people believe especially environmentalists that the project will be harmful to the health and to the environment. Aboitiz company on the other hand, assures the people of Davao that the proposed power plant project will be utilizing new technologies to minimize the harmful effects of the project to the environment. The public hearing on Friday, May 6 will be the third and probably the last.

The proposed power plant project is expected to worth Php 25 billion making it the biggest single investment in Davao once the project is approved. The power plant will be a situated on a 52-hectare property at Barangay Binugao and Inawayan in Toril, south of Davao City. Read the rest of this entry »

SM City Davao to hold Job Fair on May 1

There will be a Job Fair and Livelihood Showcase events at SM Davao Event Center on May 1. The event is made possible with the participation of SM City Davao, Public Employment Service Office (PESO) and Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Davao Region.

The job fair will bring at least 75 companies and will offer job vacancies for local and overseas deployment. There is also an ongoing pre-registration at the second floor of SM City Davao for interested applicants who would like to participate in the said event.

The May 1 Job Fair is connection with the celebration of Labor Day.

First Davao Summerfest Set

The City of Davao will be having its first Summerfest this coming April 29 to May 29, 2011. The month-long occasion will involve sports, music and cultural activities. The event is organized by the Davao City Government in participation with the Small Hotels Association of Davao, Davao Association of Tour Operators and Davao Tourism Association, Davao Travel Agency Association, GUIDE- Davao, Davao Cooperative Center for Visitors and Convention, and Davao Airline Operators Association.

The First Davao Summerfest was realized to address the need to hold an event since there is nothing happening in Davao during summer season. The Summerfest will also compliment the other existing festivals in Davao namely, Araw ng Dabaw, Kadayawan Festival and Pasko Fiesta. This event is expected to attract more tourists and sports enthusiasts.
