The city council of Davao has approved the application of Southernpoint Properties for the reclassification of a 10-hectare lot in Lanang into a commercial zone. The said property is originally intended for parks and recreation.
Southernpoint Properties, a SM Prime holdings subsidiary passed all the necessary requirements for the reclassification. The company is going to construct and operate a commercial building inside the property. The 10-hectare land was bought by SM Prime Holdings from Dakudao and Sons and was formerly part of the 40-hectare Lanang Golf and Country Club.
The City Council conducted a public hearing to discuss the reclassification of the land last September 13. The City Council amended the zoning classification of the property and approved the application of Southernpoint Properties.
The SM City Lanang is expected to start its commercial operation next year along with SM City in General Santos according to Glenn D. Ang, vice president for operations of SM Supermalls. The SM Mall Lanang is bigger than the existing SM City in Ecoland and expected to feature an IMAX theater which will be the first in Davao City.
This said news is a positive development for the construction of SM City Lanang. Once completed, the shopping mall will be the second SM Mall in the Davao City after SM City Ecoland.
