Kabasan is a native word for seashells. This is a long week summer celebration with different activities prepared for Babak folks, visitors from nearby districts and from other places.

Kabasan Festival was opened last May 22, 2010. A Motocross Challenge held at day time and followed by a spectacular fireworks display and a live band concert in the evening.

Finally, the Kabasan National Chess Open and Regional Eliminations from May 27-28 at the Camp Holiday Resort and Recreational Area in Babak are now all set. The two-day event features Open Division, Kiddies, and the Junior Division. Delightful prizes await the winners.

Ekran Berhard, the owner of Samal Casino Resort is planning to reopen the resort this year with an additional investment of $100 million for the hotel renovation. This resort is located in Kaputian District, Island Garden City of Samal. It was operational in 1997 as a hotel and casino with 300 rooms and a ballroom that could cater 3,000 people. In the early 1990’s, this Island Resort gained a cost of more than $250 million. However, due to Asian financial crisis, it was closed and left idle for almost nine years now.
Ekran Berhard plans to renovate the hotel and expected to reopen by December this year. Some officials of the Island Garden City of Samal had personally met Pek Khiing Ting and his son Michael Ting in Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia and talked about the plans of the company for the said resort. Accordingly, Ekran Berhard has an idea to link the $300 million Samal Island Resort with other hotels in the region particularly the one in Kuching, Malaysia.
The Samal Casino Resort is a 250 hectare area composed of complete amenities for guests and visitors. It is accessible via a 30-minute pump boat or ferry ride from Davao City.
Once fully operational again, the hotel is expected to infuse at least 50 million pesos various taxes and will give job opportunities for employment and boosts the tourism industry of the Samal Island.
The realization of the resort was under the BIMP-EAGA initiative in the early 1990’s which was agreed between the Philippines and Malaysia.
